The Christian’s Inheritance (Part 4): Pleasing God

10/04/2019 | The Christian’s Inheritance [4/6]: Pleasing God | 00:25:41

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 5:1-2

Therefore as by the offence of one judgement came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:18-21

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:1-4

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:11

Yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 6:13b

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness;
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Romans 6:16-18; 22

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by works of the Law: for by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
For if I build again the things which I destroyed then I make myself a transgressor.
For I through the Law am dead to the Law, that I might live unto God.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:16-20

Two doctrines in the Word of God

Inheritance by faith

Primary doctrine is that you have received your inheritance by faith

Your inheritance is that you are saved, have received Christ’s righteousness and are sanctified

The Christian’s inheritance that is in Christ is forgiveness of sin, righteousness and to get made sanctified

Sanctified is made holy

Regarding your inheritance, all things are lawful

lawful means allowed or permissible

Secondary doctrine is what is a beneficial way for you to walk

All things are lawful, but they’re not all beneficial

The Holy Spirit bears his fruit in a Christian

It’s not beneficial for you to walk against the working of the Holy Spirit

You are justified by faith

Righteousness of Christ accredited to your account

Gift of righteousness

Two types of faith

Primary faith gives you the righteousness of God

Secondary faith is that you have the gift of righteousness

Standing upon the righteousness of God glorifies God

Standing upon the righteousness of God pleases God

Faith pleases God

You please God when you stand upon the righteousness of God

You are dead to sin

You can’t sin anymore

Reckon yourselves dead to sin

Present yourselves instruments of righteousness to God

You died to the sin in you

You don’t relate to the sin in you anymore

Sin in your flesh is not you

You can’t produce sin that gets accredited to your account

Acts of sin don’t get accredited to your account, because you’re dead to sin

When you stand on the righteousness of God, grace reigns

You serve God by serving the gift of righteousness

You are dead to the Law

You are not under the Law

You can’t break the Law before God

You can’t break the Law because you are not under the Law

You’re not found to be a sinner by God

You can’t sin before God

It’s for freedom that Christ set you free from the Law

You are free from the Law

You are free to exercise your freedom from the Law

You honour God by exercising your freedom from the Law

You are free to leave the Law behind

You are free to do the good works that God works in you
