Romans 5:1-2

ROMANS 5:1-2

A proper commentary on Romans 5:1-2 needs to define justified as ‘declared righteous’:

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 5:1-2

When you believed in the Gospel of Christ, God declared you to be righteous [Romans 1:16-17, 3:24-26, 5:1].

Since you are righteous before God, you are at peace with God [Romans 5:1, 5:10].

Therefore, the only requirement to have peace with God is to believe the Gospel of Christ.

Consequently, if you have believed the Gospel of Christ you have peace with God, irrespective of anything that you have done.

Paul says that you stand in the gift of righteousness [Romans 5:2, 5:17].

If you trust that you are righteous by faith then this glorifies God [Romans 5:2] and is an act of holiness [Romans 6:19].
